Sanchez awarded for lifetime of global impact

Southwestern Professor of Missions Daniel Sanchez has served in numerous positions in the field of missions and academia, from missionary in Guatemala to evangelism director of the Baptist Convention of New York; from academic dean at Panama Baptist Theological Seminary to director of Southwestern Seminary’s Scarborough Institute for Church Growth. In addition, he has traveled to various countries around the world to teach in seminaries and local churches, devoting special attention to those in Latin America. Because of these protracted efforts to further God’s Kingdom throughout the world, during a meeting of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) on the campus of Southwestern Seminary, Oct. 13, Sanchez received the Lifetime Impact Award.

More than 60 students from the College at Southwestern participated in the second annual College Retreat held at the Heart of Texas Camp in Brownwood, Sept. 11-12. Led and organized by Student Life, the weekend getaway provided opportunities to connect with fellow students through worship, Bible study and evangelism.

Friend’s persistent Gospel witness bears fruit

Throughout the past four years, JT, a family friend of Bachelor of Science student Heath Van Zandt, often expressed interest in church and learning Scripture. For a time, he even attended church with Van Zandt, although he stopped after only a few weeks. In spite of JT’s curiosity and desire to learn more, he felt he did not understood enough about the Bible to be able to give his life to Christ. On Sept. 13, however, when confronted with the Gospel again, he realized that he did not want to wait any longer.

Barry McCarty ‘converts,’ accepts teaching position at Southwestern
By Staff

Barry McCarty, who has served as the Southern Baptist Convention’s chief parliamentarian for nearly three decades, has accepted the position of professor of preaching and rhetoric at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Not previously identifying as a Southern Baptist, McCarty recently “converted” after observing the missional heart of Southern Baptists and the merits of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
